Etsy Sales Tracker: How to Track Any Shop's Sales Over Time
You can see how many sales an Etsy shop has made in total. What you can't see on the page is how many it made this week, or which listings brought them in. That's what an Etsy sales tracker does.
Answer first: an Etsy sales tracker records a shop's public sales counter and its listings' review counts every day, then compares the snapshots. The difference in the sales counter is the number of orders between two days. Review growth on each listing shows which items are taking those orders, because a share of buyers leave reviews. Over a week or a month, that gives you a measured picture of what sells.
Step 1: understand the public data
- Shop sales counter: lifetime orders, visible on the shop page.
- Listing reviews: a share of buyers leave one after an order.
- Prices: change over time and affect sales.
None of these alone tells you this month's sales. Snapshots over time do.
Do this today: pick three shops in your niche and write down their sales counters.
Step 2: track manually (if you have time)
Record the same numbers on the same day every week in a spreadsheet: shop sales, top listings' reviews, prices. After four weeks you'll see which shops grow and which listings drive them.
The weakness: it's slow, easy to forget, and weekly checks miss short spikes.
Step 3: track automatically
In EtsyLens: add a shop or keyword to Tracking. EtsyLens takes a daily snapshot of the shop's lifetime sales count and every listing's review count and price. The tracking itself runs every day without you opening the app.
Step 4: see which listings take the sales
A shop's sales growth is the total. To split it by listing, compare each listing's share of new reviews.
In EtsyLens: the measured sales distribution splits a shop's confirmed sales growth across its listings by each listing's share of review growth, over 7, 14 or 30 days. It needs at least two days of history before deltas appear.
Do this today: add your three most important competitors to tracking and check back in a week.
What to do with the data
- Product decisions: expand in the direction where competitors' listings are gaining.
- Pricing: see whether price changes affected their sales.
- Seasonality: spot when a niche starts moving before the peak.
Remember these are estimates
Public data can't show exact units or revenue. The sales counter is a hard number of orders; per-listing splits are estimates from review growth.
Example: reading a week of tracking
A tracked competitor selling custom pet portraits:
- Lifetime sales went from 4,820 to 4,869 in seven days: 49 orders, about 7 a day.
- Over the same week, their "custom dog portrait digital" listing gained 9 reviews, the framed version 2, and the cat portrait 1.
- The measured distribution splits those 49 orders mostly toward the digital dog portrait.
What it tells you: in this shop, digital dog portraits carry most of the current demand. If you sell portraits, that's the variation to study (price, turnaround, presentation), not the framed version.
Mistakes when tracking sales
- Reading one day. Daily numbers are noisy; look at 7, 14 or 30 days.
- Confusing orders with items. Shop sales count orders; one order can contain several items.
- Treating per-listing splits as exact. They're estimates based on review share.
- Tracking too many shops. Five to ten relevant competitors teach more than fifty random ones.
- Not acting on it. Tracking is useful only if it changes what you make, price or promote.
What to track
- Your 5–10 direct competitors.
- One or two larger shops in your niche, to see seasonal movement early.
- Your own shop, so you compare your growth with theirs on the same scale.
Do this today: choose the five shops you'd track first and write one question you want each to answer (for example, "which variation sells most before Christmas?").
FAQ
Can you track another Etsy shop's sales?
Yes, by recording its public sales counter over time. The difference between two dates is its orders in that period.
How do I see which Etsy listings sell the most?
Track review growth per listing. Listings that gain reviews fastest are very likely selling most.
How accurate is an Etsy sales tracker?
The shop sales counter is exact for orders; per-listing splits and revenue are estimates.
